There are so many great planners out there, but how do you know which one is right for you? These are 4 questions every teacher should ask themselves before buying next year's planner...
1. What do you want to use your planner for?
This is the best place to start!
Do you want your planner to include lesson planning pages? Or do you prefer to keep lesson plans digital and just use your planner for to-dos, schedules, and reminders? Some teachers want both, while others only need one.
There’s no right answer—only what is right for you!
For example, inside our Pray & Plan lineup, some planners are designed just for daily planning (like the Deluxe or Mini), while others include full lesson planning pages (like the Lesson Planner or the all-in-one Ultimate). The key is simply knowing what you want to keep on paper and what you don’t.
2. Do you want something big and spacious—or simple and portable?
Planner size is important, because it should fit your needs!
Some teachers love a large, all-in-one planner with space for everything—notes, plans, lists, and more. Others prefer something small and lightweight they can easily grab and carry anywhere.
This really comes down to personality and lifestyle. If you tend to write a lot (or like having everything in one place), a larger planner like Pray & Plan Ultimate might be a great fit. But if you value simplicity and portability, something more compact—like the Mini—can feel much more manageable.
It’s all about what you’ll actually use consistently!
3. What’s your budget—and what kind of quality are you looking for?
Teacher planners can range from a few dollars to more premium options—and both can serve a purpose!
If you just need a basic place to jot down tasks, a simple, inexpensive planner (or even a notebook) might work just fine. But if you’re looking for something you’ll use and enjoy every single day, it may be worth investing in a higher-quality option.
Premium planners are designed with durability, thoughtful layouts, quality paper, and intentional features that support your daily routine all year long. For many teachers, that added quality makes a big difference in both function and enjoyment.
It is important to ask yourself, "What will serve me best this year"?
4. What features actually matter to you?
This is where you think about your "must-haves" versus your "nice-to-haves!" Do you want:
A clean, simple layout? Or something more decorative?
Extra space for notes or habit tracking?
Tabs, pockets, or organizational tools?
A specific lesson plan format?
For many Christian teachers, one of the biggest considerations is this:
Do you want your planner to support your spiritual life as well as your schedule?
That’s one of the things that makes Pray & Plan unique! It intentionally weaves together planning with prayer and scripture. For teachers who want to stay grounded in their faith throughout the school day, that can be a powerful difference.
The goal is simply to choose a planner that aligns with what matters most to you!
