Dream job alert:

If you love helping others, are good at communicating and writing, are unintimidated by tech, and have a heart to support teachers & make a difference in the field of education, this might just be your dream job!

Teach 4 the Heart is a virtual organization dedicated to helping teachers thrive so they can shine the light of the Gospel in their classrooms. We do this by providing teacher training, support & encouragement from a Biblical perspective.

We are looking for a new part-time team member to assist our team with customer service and engagement (more details below ⬇️)

This job is right for you if you….

  1. Have a firm faith in Jesus and strong commitment to follow Scripture
  2. Have at least 1-2 years of teaching experience (you need to "get" what it's like to be a teacher 🙂 )
  3. Have good "people skills" and are able to reply calmly and kindly even when others are being unreasonable
  4. Enjoy participating in social media and are comfortable using major platforms like Facebook and Instagram
  5. Like figuring things out and finding creative solutions to solve problems/issues
  6. Have good writing & proofreading skills
  7. Are not intimidated by new technology, software, and apps and are comfortable learning, using, and (if needed) troubleshooting them
  8. Are organized and reliable - able to manage and balance various projects and tasks without much oversight

Our business is completely virtual, and in our (totally unbiased 🙂 ) opinion, we think this is an awesome place to work!

But not everything is rainbows & unicorns. Here’s some good news & bad news..

LET’S GET THE BAD NEWS OUT OF THE WAY FIRST:

  • We're looking for a bit of flexibility on the hours. We're looking for someone who can start out at 8-10 hours a week but would have the ability (and desire) to increase to at least 15 hours/week if needed. (As an FYI, it's also possible that more hours would be available in the future, if that is something you'd want, but beyond 15hrs/week would not be required/expected.)
  • Despite the limited hours, we are looking for someone who is serious about this position. We  expect you to be passionate about & prioritize this position and not view it as “just another side gig” or "something I do when I have extra time."
  • We expect a lot from our team. Because we are a small organization, we need each team member to be great at what they do, and cannot afford team members who don't carry their weight. This means that if you're looking for a position where you can clock in and phone it in, this is not for you. However, if you're the right candidate, this bad news isn't bad news at all but in fact quite good news - because you'll fit right in with an amazing team of fantastic people who do amazing things together!
  • We use a LOT of tech. We have a lot of different software and apps that we use to run our website and programs. You won't have to know how to use everything, but you'll have to learn a lot of it. If learning new programs or tech is intimidating for you, this probably isn't going to be a good fit. However, if you enjoy learning new programs and are excited to tackle a bit of a learning curve, then continue ready for the good news!

NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS:

  1. Everything is virtual, so no need to commute, and you can wear whatever you want! Such a huge time/cost savings! You will have the opportunity to connect with teammates in biweekly team meetings (online) and in our chat groups.
  2. The work is fun, fresh, and varied. You’ll be working with our team to support & encourage teachers.
  3. We’re not big on stress.  So, while we will expect you to work efficiently and get things done, we focus on open communication and getting things done right the first go around. When things start to fall behind, we work together to find solutions rather than expecting you to burn the midnight oil to get caught up.
  4. The hours are super flexible. You have a lot of flexibility to choose when you work during the week. You'll need to cover certain tasks on certain days of the week, but you'll have input into which days of the week you'll be working, and you can typically choose what time of day you want to work.  We do have biweekly team meetings and meetings for specific projects.   Beyond that, though, you can typically choose when you work.
  5. You won’t be bored. We are a small organization, so we cannot afford to waste time. We prioritize spending our time on the right things & getting them done as efficiently as possible. It’s also expected that each team member will wear a variety of hats, balance multiple projects, and utilize a variety of skills. This means there’s always a lot of variety in what you’re doing, and being bored won’t be an issue.
  6. We value work/life balance & support families: While we value efficiency, we also value work/life balance. We work with team members’ schedules and adjust responsibilities as needed so that team members are working an optimal # of hours for their life situation. We seek to work ahead so that there is margin, allowing us flexibility when things inevitably come up.
  7. We're super organized. You're not going to be thrown in and asked to figure everything out on your own. We have great systems and documentation, so while it's a lot to learn, you'll also be set up for success with helpful tools and systems to follow.

Some things you MAY be responsible for…

  1. Answering customers' questions via email
  2. Moderating our Facebook group
  3. Interacting with our audience on social media (answering questions, responding to comments, etc.)
  4. Writing social media posts
  5. Writing emails to our audience
  6. Proofreading
  7. Answering members’ questions about teaching (via email, video, and in coaching calls)

What does success look like in this role?

  • Reliably showing up and completing assigned tasks on time
  • Responding to customers' concerns with accuracy and kindness
  • Writing social posts and emails that are compelling, concise, and connect well in the place they're being shared
  • Being able to  learn a lot of new software and procedures in a fairly short amount of time (don't worry, we will train you well! But you do need to be ready to conquer the learning curve without being too intimidated by it.)
  • Using correct grammar and mechanics in your communication - and being able to spot and correct errors when proofreading
  • Paying attention to details so that things are done correctly
  • Once you're up to speed, continually identifying ways to be more efficient and effective

insights into the position

These are meant to give you an idea of what we need & what you can expect:

1. You need to be excited about our mission to help teachers thrive so they can shine the light of the Gospel in their classrooms. This job may be right for you if you cannot wait to support teachers, whether it answering their questions, engaging with them, or helping them with payment or access issues.

2. You need to be patient and kind. Thankfully no one should ever yell at you since you're mostly responding to email and comments, but we do still deal with upset people on occasion. You'll need to respond with grace and kindness - even when you aren't giving them the answer that they want.

3. You’ll be communicating with our audience & team. So, you need to have a passion to help teachers and the ability to communicate with clarity, empathy & care. You also need to enjoy writing messages or emails to our audience and be able to write and speak in a way that is compelling, concise, and relatable (as you can see from this description, we use a relaxed writing style that you'll be expected to adopt).

4. You need to enjoy interacting on social media. This position will include a lot of social media interaction - things like responding to comments on our posts, interacting with our audience online, answering questions in our support group, and helping create social media posts. As such, we need someone who is familiar with how the main social media platforms work (at least Facebook & Instagram), uses them enough to be fairly up-to-date on new features and trends, and is comfortable using the platform.

5. You need to be on the same page with us philosophically. As you'll be interacting with our audience, we need strong alignment in our beliefs and viewpoints. The ideal candidate would agree with this statement of faith, hold Biblical views in sensitive topics such as gender and sexual identity, and share our educational philosophies. (The best way to know if you're in alignment is to listen to some of our podcast episodes here. We don't expect you to agree on every tiny detail, but overall philosophy alignment will be key.)

6. You’ll be working with a lot of tech. We use a lot of different software and apps. We’ll train you on everything, but it’ll feel like a lot at first. You don't need to be a tech genius, but you'll need to get up-to-speed fairly quickly and be comfortable exploring & learning new software and figuring things out on your own when needed.

7. You'll need to be reliable and organized. We'll be counting on you to complete your tasks on time, without needing reminders.

8.  You won’t just be checking boxes. While some tasks will be fairly cut-and-dried, many responsibilities will require you to think creatively come up with ideas and solutions, and adjust processes as needed to meet our goals.

9. Your responsibilities will be varied. As a small company, all our team members wear a lot of different hats. Don’t worry - we won’t throw all of them at you at once, but you do need to be prepared to balance quite a few different tasks and projects. That means you need to be good at managing your time and prioritizing what’s most important.

10. You need to share our company values. At Teach 4 the Heart, we have five core values: innovative problem solving, a passion to help, Biblical thinking, and authenticity.  We welcome you to apply if you share these values!

We don’t expect perfection for you to qualify. We are prepared to train you and to make sure you have the tools you need to succeed! We expect you to bring solid writing and speaking skills, intelligence, insights, organization, and a passion to help.
