Do You Feel Too Busy to Pray? (My Confession)

Do you ever get so busy that you feel like you don’t have time to pray? I know I do. Sometimes I feel like my to-do list is too long to take out ten minutes to spend time with God. But this thought is ridiculous because talking to God is what I need most in my life.

Lately God has been speaking to me about how much I need Him, especially His Spirit.  When I start depending on my own ability to accomplish all my tasks, I lose my source of strength. When I neglect prayer, I not only miss out on a chance to connect with my Savior, but I also forfeit the power that will help me accomplish all that I need to do.

Sometimes my devotions include listening to godly music, and recently the words to “In Me” by Casting Crowns just broke through to challenge and inspire me.

Take a moment and listen to the song. Pay close attention to the words.  Seriously, listen to it.  I promise it will be worth your 4 ½ minutes. I’m not going anywhere.

As I listened, I was reminded of five powerful truths that all of us (especially as teachers and parents) need to keep in mind.

  1. I can do nothing on my own. Yes, I may be able to check off the items on my list, but I won’t really accomplish anything of lasting value when I’m working in my own power. I absolutely have to depend on Christ and to listen to His leading every moment of the day.

  2. The power of Christ in me makes me strong. When I feel weak or inadequate, God can make me strong. He can empower me and guide me when I am unsure. But I must depend on Him.

  3. It’s amazing that God wants to use me. God doesn’t need me at all, but He chooses to use me for His purpose. That is incredible, and I’m so glad that He wants to use my feeble efforts.

  4. God can accomplish amazing things through me. When I depend on Christ and His guidance, He can use me to accomplish things I never imagined. He can help us reach the student we thought was unreachable, to raise our kids to be incredible servants and leaders for Christ, to do more than we could even ask or think.

  5. It’s all for God’s glory. All that God accomplishes through me is not so that I look good or feel good about myself. It’s for His glory – so that others will look at me and see how great a God I serve.

These truths were a great encouragement to me and a powerful reminder to seek His face not just daily but throughout the day.

What truths has God been showing you lately?
