This Week's Devotion Was Inspired By:

Ps 37:1-2, 7-9 ESV

"Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
    be not envious of wrongdoers!

For they will soon fade like the grass
    and wither like the green herb.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
    fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
    over the man who carries out evil devices!

Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
    Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.

For the evildoers shall be cut off,
    but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land."

FROM HEAD KNOWLEDGE TO HEART KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Think about a situation you’ve been worried about lately, something where you’ve seen evil prospering, whether on a large or small scale.
  2. Pray about this situation. Take it to God and ask Him to intervene.
  3. After your prayer, remind yourself: “God says to us, ‘Don’t worry. I’ve got this.’”

KEY POINT: Sometimes it feels like evil is winning... But it is NOT because God is in control.

Do you ever get frustrated when it seems like evil is winning—whether in the world at large, in culture, or in a specific situation in your classroom, school, family, or personal life?

It can be really discouraging, and we’re rightly grieved when we see this happening.

But listen to these words from Psalm 37:

"Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers, for they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb.
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices.
Refrain from anger and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land."

These verses encourage us not to worry when we see evil prospering. Why? Because God’s got this. He will not let it go on forever.

We can get impatient because our timetable isn’t like God’s. We want it fixed now, but we can trust our sovereign God to see, know, and make things right—in His way and timing, not ours.
