God is so faithful to us, and remembering this can really give us strength for whatever we are facing.
Let's look at some of these words that speak this truth.
Lamentations 3:22–23 state, "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness."
Now, you've probably heard these verses before, but do you realize that they come in the middle of the book of Lamentations, which is a lament—a mourning, a grieving, a pouring out, a vicious sorrow—because the Israelites had just been sent into exile.
Jerusalem had been destroyed. It was a really dire time. And the prophet Jeremiah is pouring out this lament. If you read through it, it is very graphic and full of tears and agony, and just kind of like the worst thing imaginable had happened. And yet, in the middle of it, he pens these words:
The steadfast love of the Lord does not cease.
His mercies don't come to an end.
They are new every morning.
Great is his faithfulness.
And that's the central truth—that He is faithful. He is with us in trials.
See, Scripture never says things won't be hard, or things won't go bad, or you'll always have wonderful students, and you'll get the class you want, and you won't get sick, and it'll be a wonderful time every day. Scripture never promises us any of that.
But it promises that He's faithful, that He's with us, and it promises to take all of our troubles and use them for good. And so when we are in the midst of something—whether it's a really, really awful something or just a really annoying something—we can be comforted by the fact that He is with us.
He is faithful.
He is good.
And His mercies are new every morning.
So I want to encourage you to take just a few moments and think back on this school year, and just consider some very tangible ways:
How has God been faithful to you this past school year?
Think about that. Meditate on it, and let that knowledge of how He's been faithful in the past encourage you and give you strength for whatever you're going to face this week.
