This Week's Devotion Was Inspired By:

Revelation 21: 1-4 ESV

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Today's passage is from the book of Revelation chapter 21, and as I read it, I want you to think about how this is actually going to happen one day. Here we go.

Revelation 21: 1-4 "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more. Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore. The former things have passed away."

I'm willing to guess that right now in your life, there are things that are hard, it might just be day to day struggles of teaching. Or it might be a really big life trial that you or someone you love is going through that's really, really difficult. But it can really help us and give us hope, to zoom out from our day-to-day of our lives and remember the bigger picture that God is not done yet.

Everything that is wrong right now (in the world, in your life, etc.) will one day be made right in the new heaven and in the new earth. There will be no more death, no more sickness, no more sorrow, no more crying, no more sin.

Everything will be made new and made right the way God intended it to be.

Does that fix everything right now? No, it doesn't. It doesn't mean that we don't go through hard things. But having that perspective includes reminding ourselves that this is just temporary, that God isn't done, and a glorious future awaits.

It's real. It's not a fairy tale. It's actually going to happen and it's going to last forever. This knowledge can truly help give us by providing real, lasting hope.

So take a few minutes and meditate on the glorious future that awaits and how God isn't done yet.

He will make everything right in his time.
